LupusRunners.org was created by a group of people who love to run and who wanted to use a hobby for the greater good. The founders are all close to people with lupus, and seek to help them in their struggle by raising support for the Lupus Foundation of America.
Our mission has three parts:
1) To raise money for the Lupus Foundation of America.
2) To bring together a community of people who have a shared interest in what we are doing.
3) To help people achieve physical fitness goals by providing information and support for those who want to get into the sport.
To achieve these larger goals, we have set some smaller goals for this calendar year:
1) To have twenty runners join by October.
2) For all members to train for and compete in the Chicago Marathon.
3) To raise $15,000 for the LFA.
As this is LupusRunners' first year of existence, future goals will be set based on how well we achieve this year's goals. It is our hope that our runners will compete in events to raise money and awareness for lupus all year round, but that we can compete all together at one major event per year. By competing year-round and both together and individually, we hope that we can encourage donors to make giving to LFA through our organization part of their annual charitable giving and not just a one-time event.
We thank you for your interest, and hope that you will consider joining us as a runner or supporting our cause as you feel led.
